A Third Eye Perspective

Ocean Reflections

During my stay in CA, I’ve been fortunate to make it over to the beach a few times. There are a lot of cool life lessons if you really take a look around.
A glimpse of the Universe:

Did you know that there are more stars in the Universe than grains of sand on a beach? In fact, there are multiple stars for every grain of sand. If you pick up a handful of sand and look at the grains – it will really get you thinking. Click here for an interesting article from NPR.

Take a closer look:

It’s easy to take sand for granted as you walk over it – though it does get your attention if it’s hot. If you look at sand close-up it’s beautiful and amazing. Take a closer look at what's around you, things you may take for granted may surprise you. Click here to see more photos of magnified sand.

There is beauty everywhere:

Just like life, the sea is full of beautiful surprises – that sometimes wash up on shore: jelly fish, sea shells, sea kelp, sand dollars and perhaps a beached whale reminding us of the process of life and death.

Coexistence:

While the species do feed on each other, you never see warfare – no wars between the sharks and the seals or the fish and pelicans. while certain species do defend their territory or their food, you don’t see them annihilating each other.

The waves:

The waves never cease. Sometimes they come crashing in, other times as a gentle ripple. Life carries on. Sometimes life hits like a giant wave, or pulls us under and puts us through the “washing machine” – it’s up to us how we react. Do we fight the waves? Do we just give up? Do we swim them to shore? Do we swim further out away from the waves and ask for help to be brought back in? We always have a choice.

I love the ocean. I love the feel of my feet in the sand as the waves wash over them. I love spotting dolphins, seals and whales. I love the patterns of the sand constantly being changed by the sea. I admire the beautiful shells that wash ashore. There is definitely a sense of peace, yet power, at the ocean. I’ll leave you with this meme:
