News:
It's hard to believe that summer is nearing its end. A lot of schools are already back in session. Where did the time go? As students get back into their routine, it's a great reminder that we're never too old to learn. In fact, we should always be stretching ourselves, broadening our horizons and opening our minds. Dr. Wayne Dyer often quoted Tilopa, a 10th century scholar in India, who advised: "have a mind that is open to everything and attached to nothing." This is a very powerful statement. How often are we attached to our ideas and opinions - often to our own detriment? How often do we latch onto a 'truth' only to find that truth expanded when our perspective is shifted? We are each of us forever students while we live out our human existence. We are students, yet at the same time, we are also teachers for each other. This is a great time to open your mind to something new. I challenge you to step out of your safety zone and explore something unknown. A second challenge is, the next time you find yourself rebuking someone's opinion - be open to hearing what they have to say and attempt to not be attached to their opinion or yours. You may just find yourself pleasantly surprised and more at peace. We are all students in this school of life. How much we choose to learn and experience depends on us.
Love, this forever student -Adrienne :)
In Tribute:
I was shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden passing of a very kind, big-hearted woman who I met years ago in Switzerland. We had a special connection because I really couldn't speak her language and she couldn't really speak mine, yet we got along quite well. We communicated via gestures, facial expressions and through a translator whenever one was present. I remember taking a trip by train with her and the best I could muster in Swiss German was 'how are you?' I was so grateful when we arrived at the town and her daughter could translate for us. Margrith was a very gently and special person. She shared her tomatoes with me straight from the garden. To this day, I have never smelled nor tasted such delicious tomatoes in my life. I was in heaven! She would also gift me post cards of Switzerland and Swiss chocolates among other keepsakes that I treasure. We would write each other cards. I'm sure she had a good laugh at my poorly translated German (Google translate, while awesome, isn't always right on). She would cook Swiss dishes and I would cook American food. She was always a good sport and tried my concoctions. We played quite a few board games. I wasn't really a game person until I played with her and her family. I now have a love of Tri-omino. While we could not hold in depth conversations, we were able to relate at a deeper level. Her kindness and generosity of spirit really touched my heart and left an impression that will never be erased. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to know her. She is one of the rare gems I've come across in life who exemplifies the virtue to always be kind - it really does make a difference. When I first spoke to her in spirit I joked that at least now she can understand me without a translator. Margrith, thank you - for everything. I will hold you always in my heart with love and gratitude.
